The cottages are tucked away down a quiet road, just a stroll from the village square.
They are clustered on a four-acre, rocky, landscaped knoll, with a view of mountains on one side, and the Atlantic on the other. A stroll further down this road will bring you to a stony beach with a view of the river and Carramore Strand, a Blue Flag beach. Carramore is just 800 metres away, walking or driving through the village.
The cottages have the charm of traditional materials - weathered slate and whitewashed walls. Each has a front porch and a half-door to lean on. The interiors blend authentic tradition with today's comfort and convenience.
In the living room, with its rugged stone flooring , and pine dresser, a peat fire flickers on the hearth beneath the old iron pothooks.
But there is also central heating throughout, and an all-electric kitchen and cosy bedrooms.
Fully tiled bathrooms have showers over the bath. Cottages with 3 bedrooms sleep seven persons, and those with 2 bedrooms sleep four persons, with the option of sleeping a fifth person on the double couch-bed in the living-room of the small cottage. The cottages are open all year round, and the office and reception area is beside cottage no.7.
There is a payphone on side for guests. The cottages are owned and operated by Louisburgh Holidays Plc. - a company set up by the local people in 1976. They are grant aided and approved by the Irish Tourist Board. In their second year of operation the cottages were the national winners of the prestigious U.D.T. Tourism Endeavour Award in the accommodation category.
